1canoe2 Paperie Sales Floor Position (Part-time)

Job Description and Key Results Areas

Responsible for:

  • Ringing up sales accurately
  • Customer service including: talking with customers in the shop, telling the 1canoe2 story, answering the phone.
  • Keeping the sales floor shoppable and clean
  • Represent the 1canoe2 brand with a consistent appearance and attitude
  • Producing cards if sales floor is slow- assisting Production Crew when needed.
  • Taking initiative and completing tasks that need to be done, whether they’ve been assigned or not.
  • Speaking up when a problem arises, and reporting to the next level of management.
  • Being a team player and working well with others to achieve the goals of 1canoe2 at large.

This position reports directly to the Sales Manager for sales floor related tasks, Jaylyn for Production related tasks, and Beth for general purposes.

Key Results Areas:

Sales Floor

  • Keep products stocked and looking good
  • Help customers find product in the shop, including cutting fabric, wrapping purchases
  • Ring up sales
  • Provide customers with information and a story that will encourage them to make a purchase
  • Handle customer service with a smile
  • Work as efficiently and accurately as possible
  • Restock inventory & supplies as needed
  • Commit to a regular work schedule
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented


  • Alert sales manager of any issues
  • Help with inventory as needed
  • Share customer comments/insights with the whole team via Slack
  • Contribute new ideas, new products, and/or better processes at weekly staff meeting


Retail or customer service experience preferred

Someone with a friendly disposition and extremely good work ethic is mandatory. We have a great time and have fun here, but we also work very hard.  We try to include everyone in creative and staff meetings and value input. Pay will be based on experience. After a 3 month probation period, pay will rise to depending on experience and job performance. We work out of our downtown Fulton, Missouri studio.

Normal shop hours are tentatively Monday-Thursday 11-6 Friday 11-8, Saturday 10-8, Sunday 12-5, but will flex with season and workload.   Friday and Saturday will likely be broken into 2 shifts.

This is a part-time position, and we need someone able to commit to at least 2 out of three weekend days (Friday/Saturday/Sunday).

Part-time Freelance Illustrator


1canoe2 is accepting portfolios for freelance illustration work under the direction of and in collaboration with our award-winning creative team. The amount of work will vary according to season and product development demands. 

Please note that we get too many portfolios to be able to respond personally to each one. We reach out to people who we think has a similar aesthetic and style to ours for future work. We do not currently have an opening, but are always open to viewing portfolios for the future.


  • Conceptualize original ideas for 1canoe2’s award-winning lifestyle line, including stationery, paper products, home goods, and other illustration projects as assigned.
  • Illustrate within the existing 1canoe2 brand and aesthetic
  • Communicate with the Creative Director consistently and frequently regarding needs and progress as it relates to all assigned illustration projects
  • Complete illustration projects on time as assigned
  • Brainstorm new projects and concepts and contribute to creative meetings


  • Experience illustrating concepts and ideas
  • Knowledge of and experience with watercolor, gouache, and ink
  • Knowledge of and experience with different styles of hand lettering
  • Ability to illustrate within the 1canoe2 style and brand aesthetic
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team
  • Excellent communication skills, fluency in English
  • Ability to listen to and apply constructive feedback
  • Positive disposition and strong work ethic
  • Knowledge of design software (Photoshop, Illustrator) preferred
