Nantes is an exceptionally sweet heirloom carrot with deep-orange roots that are 6 to 7 inches long. Home-grown carrots are extra-nutritious with higher levels of vitamin A, vitamin B, and calcium compared to their store-bought counterpart. Plant in an area with deep soil, such as a raised bed, and be sure to keep the soil moist until seeds germinate.
Where to plant :: Plant carrots in an area with full sun to partial shade and deep, loosened soil.
When to sow outside :: Directly sow carrots in the garden in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked and plant again in late summer for a fall harvest.
